About

Sam Huxtable b. 1996 (they/them) is a non binary trans, queer artist from Boorloo (Perth), Australia

Exploring the queer body and psyche, their work finds commonality between fantasy and reality and reaches out for both emotional and visceral response. Engaging with a range of mediums including digital media, sculpture/ installation and performance work, Huxtable navigates the unresolved, expansive notion of existence from a queer perspective- an existence that resides in constant flux- alongside the experience of others in their communties. Through these explorations, solitude and togetherness/ harshness and tenderness work simultaneously to reflect form and experience often overlooked.

Huxtable has performed as a part of PEAKS (Peak Performance and Endless Answers) for Perth Fringe Festival two years running (2018 and 2019) at Paper Mountain, as well as at Outcome Unknown (alongside Fiz Eustance), and has exhibited as part of Customs House Art Party, in Magical Woman at Paper Mountain (curated by Aisyah Aaqil Sumito and Sophie Nixon) with series ‘REAL DREAM’, in the Clifford Chance 2019 ARCUS Pride exhibiton (curated by Ben Bannan) and has been a part of five HAXA HOUSE residential exhibitions, held residentially and at Centre for Stories in Northbridge.

They have been a studio artist at Paper Mountain and most recently completed a residency at Cool Change Contemporary with BECOMING — THEM.
